LHAS's New Website

On June 29, the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society sported a new website appearance and experience. It was long overdue!

For the past 8 years or more, I have been maintaining the website using an application provided by Apple called iWeb.

Back in the day, anyone with a Mac computer running OS 10.X was able to purchase the optional iLife software bundle that provided the iWeb software. You installed the software directly onto your computer. There were very few, if any, companies, that I knew of  back then, that provided on line creation of a website, using their software, such as what Wordpress, Squarespace and others have available today, at a cost. Apple, at the time, even provided the server at no charge, to host your website. Apple discontinued providing the server to host a website and support for their iWeb software more than 6 years ago. Basically, I was operating on borrowed time using a legacy piece of software, such as iWeb, in addition to using a computer that's over 10 years old to maintain LHAS's website. I am surprised and fortunate at how well things have worked out software and hardware wise over the years. My computer is still running strong, but limited because of its age, and iWeb, which I was using up until recently, has never given me any problems.
As they say though, "out with the old and in with the new." So, for the past 2 years I have been experimenting with a few website platforms that are available today that are considered 'drag and drop' website builders.
Fundamentally, those that I tested were similar in many respects. There was no one platform having all the functions and features I was looking for.

So, I had to make my decision based on a few requirements that I felt would benefit the organization best. I decided to go with the Weebly platform for the following reasons.

Primarily, we have been using Machighway as the host provider for the LHAS website since 2012. They are reasonably priced and very reliable. Over the past 9 years I have not experienced any issues with their servers, and since they provide Weebly as one of their featured platforms for building a website, I wanted to stay with Machighway thinking the migration of the Weebly site would be hassle free...which it was. Next, I chose Weebly because of its many features and ease of use. There is a learning curve with any new application, but overall it wasn't difficult to grasp. Lastly, based of ease of use, I believe that when some creative individual picks up where I leave off the transition will go smoothly.

Please take the time to browse all our website pages and feel free to provide your input. I'm always looking for suggestions.

ENJOY!
