COME JOIN IN ON THE FUN AND ADVENTURE!
LHAS’ Nature Explorers aim to introduce young people and their families to the wonders of nature, including birds, wildlife, and their habitats.
Regular outings and hikes are offered at our three sanctuaries, and at local nature preserves.
Outings are led by knowledgeable naturalists. All activities are open to the public and free of charge.

First Day Hike at Boyd Woods Audubon Sanctuary

Celebrate the new year in the outdoors with a first day hike at Boyd Woods Audubon Sanctuary. Kids and adults are invited to join Boyd Woods Sanctuary stewards, Rich and Debbie Martin, for a fun, invigorating hike through the woods. The hike is about 2 miles. The terrain is moderate in difficulty. Dress in layers. Bring water and a snack.
Meet at the Boyd Woods Sanctuary parking lot on Route 254, in Litchfield. Heavy snow or rain cancels.

Shepaug Eagle Viewing

See our national bird in its natural environment at Shepaug Bald Eagle Observatory in Southbury. Volunteers, including our own expert birder, Russ Naylor, will be available to answer questions and help with spotting. Scopes will be set up for your viewing pleasure. You will see Eagles, as well as other waterfowl, and maybe Hawks, Ravens, and Eastern Bluebirds! As a bonus, you might get to see a demonstration of live raptors, put on by wildlife rehabbers.
